Introduction
We have all heard the term Sports Injuries.
It’s often used as a blanket description to explain a myriad of common injuries that generally occur from participating in sports or physical activity. But what exactly falls under the category of a sports injury and who does it most frequently affect? According to Stats Canada,
“35% of injuries occurred during participation in some type of sports or exercise [of that percentage] 66% [happen to] young people, 29% to working-age adults, and about 9% to seniors.”

- Sports injuries occur from overtraining but they can also occur from not warming up, lack of conditioning prior to starting a sport or exercise program, and improper technique or form when completing a task or exercise.
- Sports injuries can result in muscle, ligament or tendon strains, sprains, and tears.
- In more serious cases it can result in broken bones or a traumatic brain injury.

Sports Injury Symptoms
The symptoms of a sports injury depend on the type of injury you have sustained. Because of this, it is not possible to list all the types of symptoms you may encounter. The most common sites for strained or pulled muscles:
- Shoulder
- Lower Back
- Groin
- Hamstrings
- Quadriceps
- Calves
*In the case of a torn or strained muscle you will experience swelling, weakness, pain and difficulty using the muscle.
