About SCOA

Founded in 1991, the Saskatoon Council on Aging is a non-profit organization and community leader working on behalf of older adults. With over 2200 members and growing, SCOA is the voice of approximately 79,000 adults over the age of 50 living in Saskatoon census population area. (2011 Statistics Canada Population Census). SCOA envisions an environment that rejects ageism, supports age-friendly communities and the well-being of older adults across the province.

SCOA ensures that the voice of older adults is heard by government and in the community. SCOA researches and develops policy recommendations on important issues that impact older adults.

Throughout our twenty-six years in operation, SCOA has many accomplishments and milestones.

In March 2017, SCOA released the third and final Age-friendly Saskatoon Initiative Report marking the completion of this multi-year, multi-phase project. The Age-friendly Saskatoon Initiative provides a blueprint to build an age-friendly city for a growing population of older adults.

In November 2016, the Saskatoon Council on Aging presented the Phase 3 report to the Standing Policy Committee of Planning Development and Community Services of City Council. In a unanimous vote, the committee recommended to City Council that the City of Saskatoon apply for membership in the World Health Organization global network of age-friendly cities, and continue to collaborate with the Saskatoon Council on Aging to make Saskatoon an age-friendly city.

SCOA is well on their way to building a brighter future for older adults. We are excited about this new partnership.
